Garmin Mobile XT on Nokia E71 and N95 (Internal GPS supported)
Garmin Inc. provides very useful and interesting GPS solutions. Garmin Mobile XT is a software which is designed for mobile phones and provides GPS navigation on the go!
Basically, you should buy a Garmin GPS Reciever and the software provided together to use Garmin products.
On the Nokia E71 and ( N95 8GB ) you can install the Garmin Mobile XT (version 5.00.40 as of today) and use the internal GPS and/or the A-GPS intergrated on the Nokia Phones.
STEP ONE: First thing to do is to get Garmin Mobile XT software for your device. Go to Garmin Mobile XT website, and download the right version for your phone.
Once you downloaded the installation files, connect your phone on the USB DATA TRANSFER mode and run the downloaded file. The installation program will ask you where you want to install Garmin Mobile XT? Just choose the right drive (your phone) and click on « Install ».
STEP TWO: Get the Support files (from the bottom of the same page ) and install them in the same way on your phone.
STEP TREE: Get the map you need and copy the map IMG file in your phone’s memory card, inside the « Garmin » directory.
On the next page(s) we’ll see how to activate the internal GPS support for Garmin on your mobile phone…

Hi, I have successfully done all the step and it is installed inside my phone (E71). However, when I start Garmin, it do a search for GPS device, and then pops up saying that no GPS device found. Seems like it can not find my internal GPS. Please help.

I am at the same stage.
I have followed all of the steps, but after opening garmin xt I go to setting – system – and I can only choose to connect to a « garmin gps device »
There is no option to use the e71′s internal gps receiver
Can anybody help me with this?

@mrjdm: You can purchase the maps you need from the Garmin’s website.
The keygen can be found through your favorite search engine I think. Once you purchased the Garmin software, you may contact the support department to get more help.

i am unable to install Garmin in E75-1, Rm – 412, Firware 110.48.125 Updated…
when i am installing Garmin MobileXT forS ymbian S60 3rd Edition V5.00.50, it is giving me Update error… & installion stops.
E75-1 is S60 V9.4, will it work…i got pissed up & even i restored my cell fone but… then also i m unable toinstall garmin for india… i am not updating my garmin….. but i downloaded fresh garmin from garmin website

I think that you didn’t copy SW.UNL document to your mem card into the Garmin directory… and if you did you should go to office-file mgr-garmin (it is on your mem card) and find SW.UNL doc. If your sw.unl doc has ‘txt’ on the end you should rename it into SW.UNL

@Daniel, Icy Cat: follow ALL the steps while installing the Garmin Mobile XT, then restart your phone, then in the phone, go to « Menu>Tools>Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning methods » and enable the positioning method you like, all are recommended, but be careful about network based and assisted GPS as they can cost you internet charges.
Then run Garmin Mobile XT and cancel the search for GPS device, and go to Settings > System > GPS and choose the internal GPS option.
Note that you need to have the SW.UNL file placed in your Garmin directory on your memory card.

Hi, The only GPS tab i see there is ( Remote GPS ) and if you select that one you have to options 1.Pair New GPS and 2nd. Garmin GPS Devices only. so which one do i select. ?

Thanks for the tutorial, however, may I know if this is chargeable by my Telco?
It seems that when my phone is Barred, it will prompt out something like « Awaiting Better GPS Accuracy », and it even said this is assisted GPS.
Can you let me know if I can find stand alone GPS application for my E71?

@Anep: If you use Assisted GPS, you might be paying to your telco (telephone company or operator), but it might take around 5 minutes to recieve a clear and accurate GPS signal, so you should wait.
GPS options can be modified in your phone’s main menu : “Menu>Tools>Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning methods”

I am using this on my nokia E71x and is working well. I like nokia maps 3.0 beta better though. i use a 4 gb which is enough for apps and music and image. Videos or movies are on a 16gb card.

Hi,
I have a N95 8Gb and Garmin Mobile XT. It’s a bit slow on the internal GPS but usable.
My problem is that I now have a bluetooth headset (bought specifically to use the GPS function on my motorbike) – as soon as I start MobileXT it disconnects the bluetooth headset. Turn MobileXT off and the headset reconnects and works fine for calls and music.
It’s the same on my old iPaq as well – start the GPS software (iGo 6) and the bluetooth headset has no sound. It’s connecting via an external bluetooth gps receiver.
Any thoughts on this?

hi, i just installed Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.50 S60v3/5 on my nokia 5800. everything seems to work ok except tat i cant seem to load maps. it just says « no maps ».
i hav installed Garmin MapSource City Navigator Australia 2008 on my computer, unlocked it with the code and copied the image files to my memory card.
wat can i do to make it work?thanx
