–

Resources:

1- http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/web-accessibility/testing-web-accessibility.shtml

2- http://www.designedforall.com/accessibilityservices/whyaccessibility/

3- http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/RightsAndObligations/DisabilityRights/DG_4001068

4- http://wave.webaim.org/

5- http://www.webnauts.net/check.html

6- http://www.gibni.com/fight-against-discrimination-internet-for-every-one

Fight Against Discrimination, Make the internet for EVERY ONE!

Education

Informatique - Computers

Web Development

Accessibility

Web Developpment

Website Optimization

Let’s get straight to the point! Disabled people should have the same rights as everyone else. And should be able to access the information available on the internet easily.
So we as bloggers, web designers, web programmers, should not discriminate disabled people. And for this, we should create Accessible websites and webpages. There are standards which have been invented and implemented, as well as special internet browsers were created to let disabled people surf the internet as others do. Implementing these standards in your design objectives, will ensure your website’s (or blog) accessibility.

The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) aims to end the discrimination that many disabled people face.

Currently, Gibni.com is a standard website which complies to almost all accessibility standards. That means, disabled people can also surf Gibni.com easily and benefit from it’s articles, discussions, features, and tools.

Every time I start a website design or weblog template design, I think about these standards and I do my best in implementing them into my project.

To make the internet a better place, I suggest that you start implementing these standards in your designs and codes so you make your information available to EVERY ONE!

These are first things to do:

1- Check images for alternative text (the alt=”" attribute of the img tag!)

2- Check decorative images for alternative text, like borders, corners, backgrounds…

3- Your forms should be accessible. (Provide alt=”" for inputs, label your form elements…)

4- Your text should be resizable. Means that the user should be able to make your text bigger or smaller in his/her browser.

5- Define tabindex attribute for clickable or selectable important content and page elements, so that users can navigate your site without a mouse.

6- Use keyboard shortcuts for main functionalities of your site.

7- Use a sitemap. Users should not get lost in your site!

8- Make your links human-understanable so they make sense.

9- If you have Audio or Video content, provide subtitles or transcripts of the audio.

There are a lot of articles written on this subject, so you can learn fast and easy how to do it right. Just search using your favorite search engine.

To check the accessibility of your site, use this tool: WAVE

–

Resources:

1- http://www.webcredible.co.uk/user-friendly-resources/web-accessibility/testing-web-accessibility.shtml

2- http://www.designedforall.com/accessibilityservices/whyaccessibility/

3- http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/RightsAndObligations/DisabilityRights/DG_4001068

4- http://wave.webaim.org/

5- http://www.webnauts.net/check.html

QR Codes, The Begining.

Informatique - Computers

Web Development

Wordpress

Accessibility

Technology

Web Developpment

Website Optimization

Ever heard about QR Codes? You surely know about the Barcodes, which you see on almost every purchased product. Ever asked yourself about that barcode reader application on your new smartphone?
Well, recently there’s been a new invention called QR Code. It’s a square with lots of black nad white points in it! yeah, kinda strange and extraterrestrial alphabet!
This square can contain information which you can scan with your smart phone and save that info on your device. It prevents typing and more important TYPOs!
To know what it the technology and who invented this tech and different aspects of it, go to your favorite search engine and search for it; a good reference is Wikipedia. Click Here for Wikipedia Article on QR Code

So, if you’ve read the article on wikipedia, you probably know better about QR codes. Today, a lot of mobile phones have inbuilt QR Readers, where the Nokia N95 is one of them.
QR Codes mostly contain URLs and Contact information. You can see them on some products, in recent street advertisings, on websites, business cards and so on. This is still a new technology to the public, but it’s spreading very fast.
In the next post on QR Codes, I’ll write about how a QR code is created and what type of data it can contain.
In the following posts, I’ll write about how to create your own QR Code, and at the end I’ll explain how to implement a QR Code for the desired page of your blog or website automatically.
As you can see, recently I’ve integrated a QR Code for each post and each page on Gibni. This code is genertad automatically by the server and it contains the page/post URL. You can try it by scanning the QR Code at the left with your QR Reader or Mobile Phone’s QR Reader Application.
In N95 8GB, the application can be accessed from Menu > Applications > Office > Barcode.

Give Feedback/Rating/Comment if you read this article please.
